Dr. John Jiuliano believes in the patient-physician relationship and takes the time to evaluate, individualize, and personally discuss treatment options with each patient. He and his staff strive to provide the best care for each patient, both non-surgical and surgical.
Dr. Jiuliano is double board certified in Orthopedic Surgery and Hand Surgery. He received his medical degree at Georgetown University, completed his Orthopaedic Surgery training at Tripler Army Medical Center followed by completion of the Harvard Hand and Upper Extremity Fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts.
His practice encompasses General Orthopaedic Surgery and his sub-specialty training provides him with expertise training in the upper extremity from the shoulder to the fingers. He cares for adults and children and his areas of expertise include acute injuries involving fractures, tendon lacerations and ligament ruptures, and nerve and vessel microvascular injuries. He performs complex reconstructive procedures for nerve injuries, deformities from fractures and soft tissue injuries, joint replacement surgery for arthritis and arthroscopic procedures.
Unique to his practice is his ability to successfully perform out-patient procedures with the patient wide awake. Patients appreciate “wide awake hand surgery,” a surgical approach utilizing local anesthetic without a tourniquet. Patients are not required to fast the night before surgery or change their medication schedules; they do not generally experience nausea, vomiting, or other unwanted side effects associated with general anesthesia; and they spend less time at the surgery center because post-operative recovery time is shorter.
Dr. Jiuliano is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at UH-JABSOM and enjoys teaching the Orthopaedic Residents especially during complex surgical cases. He is an active member of the American Association of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the American Society for Surgery of the Hand, the Philippine Medical Association of Hawaii, and the Hawaii Orthopaedic Association, where he served as the recent past-president.
Dr. Jiuliano has offices in Honolulu, West Oahu, and North Hawaii. He supports the Big Island community and is available for patient appointments in Kona and North Hawaii and outpatient surgery at North Hawaii Community Hospital.
